Farah's Road To Success:

Name: Farah Chirine Fortune

Occupation: Director - African Star Communications

Goal in life: "To be happy, everything else is a bonus!"

What is success? "Success for me is being able to put a roof over my daughter's head, pay my staff salaries and pay my bills. To me that is success as it means I have gotten to a place in my life where I am able to not worry so much about financial obligations. Everyone's definition of success is different and my definition of success now is different from when I started my business. Your definition of success will change every time you achieve a goal."

What success have you achieved? "I've achieved being able to run my own business for 6 years. I've been able to employ 8 staff across Africa. I have been recognized by 'The Women's World Congress' with an award I recieved in February 2014 for 'Empowering Women' in my field."

What success do you want to achieve? "I'd love complete financial freedom, that would be amazing and I have no problem working for it."

Wishing you a life of success Farah. We need more powerful and empowering women like you.

Carla's Road To Success:

Name: Carla van Staden

Occupation: "Marketing consultant. I own a marketing agency called Twenty3Media (www.twenty3media.com) and I lecture two online short courses (the Marketing and Internet Marketing courses) for UCT and GetSmarter. I also own and run an online baby store called Mooiste (www.mooiste.co.za) with my best friend, Jacoline. In my free time I like to blog at www.stylediary.co.za."

Goal in life: "I think as we go through life, our goals change. A few years ago I wanted to start my own business, settle down, drive a certain car and get married. Now that all that has happened, it's time for the next phase - start a family, continue to grow my business, travel. Since I work for myself one of the goals that I'm always trying to focus on is a good balance between all aspects of my life - when work gets busy it's easy to neglect yourself by skipping exercise, eating fast or unhealthy food all the time or neglecting your loved ones. In general I'm trying to have a good balance - and I try to do what makes me happy."

What is success? "For me success is living a fulfilled life - whatever that may mean to you. If you're a more materialistic person, that may mean living in a certain area in a certain house and driving a certain car. For me, success in life is having close and strong relationships with family and friends while doing well professionally."

What success have you achieved? "That's a tricky question - we can be very hard and critical on ourselves. In my personal life I'm fortunate that I met my husband when we were both 19. I think the road that we walked together since then helped shape us into the people we are today. He was one of my biggest supporters when I decided to start my marketing consultancy at the age of 23, and growing my business and making it profitable is definitely one of my biggest successes yet."

What success do you want to achieve? "I'd love to start a family in a few years, and then the challenge will be to balance my professional responsibilities and being a mom. We are also moving back to Namibia next year, so my goal is to continue to grow Twenty3Media in South Africa, Namibia and other African countries."

Good luck on your road to success and wishing you many more success stories Carla...

24 Inspirational Quotes Of The Week
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.

Sammy's Road To Success:

Name: Sammy Massyn

Occupation: "Merchandiser and Administrator at Khazimulo Costume Jewelry by day, Fashion and Lifestyle blogger at www.stylegild.wordpress.com / ice cream eater by night."

Goal in life: "There are so many things that I'd like to achieve in my life, even though I've already ticked a few off my list. There are the general things like having my own place - one that I'm excited to show people and one that I am able to decorate how I see it in my mind. Another goal is to have positive relationships with family members, friends and possibly that "special someone" - finding him is proving to be a little difficult though! It's funny, answering this question now, if I had been asked 7ish years ago I'd have said I want tons of money and a huge house and a Gisele Bundchen body but now, at 24 I genuinely just wish for happiness."

What is success? "A teacher once asked my class this question and some of the answers were things like Ferrari's and mansions and gold bars in a safe, but as you grow older and experience things in love, work and life you realize that success is not only a monetary value. Success can be anything from the smallest things (like learning to drive a car when you never thought you would) to the really huge things (like owning property). I think success is when you've set a specific goal for yourself and you've reached that goal."

What success have you achieved? "I've always wanted to travel overseas so as soon as I matriculated I packed a bag and moved to London for a year and a half. Before I left I didn't really think further than "Go to London" so once I got there I was pretty satisfied that I'd managed to do that all on my own. My mom and I also decided at the beginning of this year that she was going to leave her job in the construction industry and that her and I would start a company from scratch - it's really not as easy as it seems! I believe that having a business, an office space and a client base is a great success so far within our company. And also I can drive a car! I never thought I'd get past stalling!"

What success do you want to achieve? "There are so, so many things that I want to be successful at and things that I'd love to achieve. I want our business to provide stable income for my mom and I. I'd like to be able to go on an awesome vacation to New York City. I'd like to help someone, somewhere along the line (I think every little bit helps), by possibly giving them an employment opportunity within the company or even something as simple as being a good friend when needed. I want to believe in myself as much as I did when I was 5 and thought I could be the pink Power Ranger when I grew up. I want to be happy!"

All the best on your road to success Sammy ...

How to Overcome Fear.

We can all admit that fear is one of the biggest reasons why we don't try things, why we don't want to chase our dreams. This video below will provide tips on how to overcome it so that we can achieve everything we want regardless of the risk.

Summary of this video:

What are you afraid of? This is a question we should be asking ourselves. Brendon says most fear is just bad management of our own mental faculties. He urges us to understand our fears. So find out, what your fear is? You need to find out so you know how to deal with it. He believes that there are 3 types of pain:

  1. Loss pain
  2. Process pain
  3. Outcome pain
  • In order to get through loss pain he tells us to focus on the gains.
  • Process pain is going through a change, which is naturally scary, so what do most people do, they don't change thinking that it's hard or not worth it. Brendon urges us to think of it as a challenge, an exciting challenge.
  • Outcome pain is when we keep telling ourselves "What if the outcome/result is negative or worse than our present situation?". He advises us to visualize good, happy and powerful outcomes. So change your mindset to a positive one.
He also goes on to say that fear is most of the time generated through negative thoughts, so instead of focusing on the fear rather focus on the gains of your goals and dreams, the positive change and outcome. By doing that, your fear will start to diminish and you will take more actions towards your goals and dreams.

Enjoy the video and please don't forget to comment and share it!

Dale’s Road To Success:

Name:  Dale Anne Scogings

Occupation: Content Producer at Spree by day. Blogger by night.

Goal in life: “My life goals involve constant personal growth, happiness and contribution. My life goal is to be able to say at the end that I did my best to reach my full potential. And to wear Elie Saab, that would complete my life. Also to have a room in my home dedicated to rainbows and creativity.”

What is success? “I personally think that success is doing what you love every day. My career is very important to me purely because I love creating and the happiness that comes from having a job that allows me to do so. I believe that my idea of success is constantly changing and that one should never become complacent about achievements. There’s always something more to accomplish and be happy about.”

What have you already achieved? “Specifically; I've been awarded a Media24 bursary and I've graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism specializing in Communication Design. I've achieved a few other things too but to be honest, I look at every day as an achievement, whether it be a good blog post, meeting a new person, helping someone or learning a new skill or learning something new about your character – the little things.”

What do you want to achieve? “Oh my. The list is endless. I intend to complete a fashion styling course at some point soon, I hope to grow my blog. I hope to train to run a half marathon. I hope to travel to Versailles and I hope to eventually edit one of SA’s top fashion magazines. I also hope to turn my blog into a book one day; as well as potentially become a full time blogger and designer. And most importantly; I hope to never lose my blind optimism and inherent need to learn and grow.”

All the best on your road to success Dale. May it be a very successful journey.

Road to success EP43!

Marli's Road To Success:

Name: Marlinette Newman

Occupation: Professional Free-lance Make-up Artist and Hairstylist.

Goal in life: "To pursue excellence in all that I do. To be excellent in my career. To love others first, learning that I am not the most important person in my life. Basically to live a Godly life - Matthew 6:33. To prioritize my marriage, my husband and family and friends. The rest will follow... a house, career, business, travel etc."

What is success? "Success for me is living a life that has a balance. A life that has a balance between relationships, down-time and work. To be able to treat others as you would like to be treated is also a huge success in life I think. I also strongly believe in passing on what you learn in order to help others build their success! This is part of why I started my YouTube Channel MarliMakeup."

What have you already achieved? "I have managed to build a career where I am my own business, which allows me more freedom to pursue new ideas. I am represented as a Make-up Artist and Hairstylist by one of SA's top artist agencies, Infidels. I have started a "brand" MarliMakeup which has opened up a platform for me to pass on what I know via my Tutorial Videos, Instagram and Blog. I have and am still learning to love others first before judging them. To truly care for others! I have an amazing husband who is my best friend, and a very close knit family."

What do you want to achieve? "This is always a tough question. I do have goals to grow more in all areas of my life, to walk this life with great expectations and less fear and see where it takes me. In my mind I do have dreams like starting another business, that my YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/marlimakeup would grow further so that more people can learn the Art of Make-up through my easy tutorials, to help others' dreams come true, ... etc BUT all that said I am always in God's hands. I have learnt that his plans are always greater than mine, and that is more exciting than any goals that I can come up with."

Wishing you all the best on your journey Marli, we need more people like you in this world and we all definitely need to adopt a habit of putting others first. What an inspiration you are!

It's all about TODAY!

Road to success EP42!

Jasna's Road To Success:

Name: Jasna Zellerhoff

Occupation: Freelance Stylist, Writer and the Owner and Editor of the Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Blog Fashionjazz

Goal in life:

  1. "Be successful in my chosen career.
  2. To inspire people and make a difference.
  3. To have the white picket fence with the house, the man and the baby but only when I am ready.
  4. To live life to the fullest and be happy."

What is success? "Success to me is being happy with yourself and what you do in your every day life whether it be as a successful career woman or an amazing stay at home mom or both. If you do what you love you will never work a day in your life."

What have you achieved? "Like I said for me success differs, in my career I have achieved many things... I was one of the first fashion bloggers in South Africa, I started my blog/site when no one even knew what a blog was and would ask me why on earth I was taking pictures of my outfits or my jewelry. My readership started from overseas where I started by joining a blog Chictopia and networking with different bloggers who now are the most sought after top fashion bloggers in the world. Having maintained those friendships they were the ones who encouraged me to start my blog and the rest as they say is history.

I was voted as one of the top 100 bloggers in the world, which later became a hard cover book that you can purchase on Amazon and have been featured in overseas blogs, magazines and TV shows like Fashion Salade, Glamour and MTV.

I have also the privilege to work and represent luxury brands from all over the world national and international like Marc Jacobs, Shopbop, American Swiss, Smirnoff Vodka, JC Le Roux, Master Card, Forever New and many more.

My personal achievement, creating a brand from scratch, maintaining it and not letting the glitz and glam of the lifestyle change me and staying true to myself, my friends and family. Trying to live each day to the fullest, I love inspiring people and when I get emails or tweets from my readers, it makes my day. I believe in business and personal that each day you end off with this saying... At the end of the day, the only questions I will ask myself are... Did I love enough, laugh enough and did I make a difference?"

What do you want to achieve? "Career wise there are so many things I want to achieve, I want to build a Fashionjazz Empire, I want to have my own line either with a brand national or international, I want to attend NY and Paris Fashion Week and finally use the invites I get from the designers instead of always sending them to my overseas friends who go on my behalf. I want to inspire people, I want to start a charity, mostly I want to help other people achieve their dreams and be happy. I am still in the process of creating a balance and juggling my career, the social aspect of my career, my personal life and my health and well being and that is something I want and need to achieve and each day it's a struggle, but a lesson that I learn about myself.

Personally, the success I want to achieve is exactly like my goals, to be happy, healthy and in love with life and everyone in it."

Road to success EP41!

Anja's Road To Success:

Name: Anja van der Spuy

Occupation: Social Media Manager at the Publishing Partnership

Goal in life:

  1. "Eat as much cheese as humanly possible.
  2. Visit the States and take a selfie in Times Square.
  3. Avoid going to the Waterfront as much as possible (Hate that place).
  4. Banish Pitbull's music.
  5. Own a walk-in closet.
  6. Get married in leopard print.
  7. Be featured in Forbes magazine.
  8. CEO: Anja van der Spuy"

What is success? "The day that you don't have to introduce yourself to people anymore - that's success."

What have you already achieved? "I was very unhappy in my previous job, so when I landed a position at The Publishing Partnership as a Content Editor for the LEGiT website, I was super chuffed. I recently got promoted to Social Media Manager, which has been really scary and amazing at the same time. Being in charge of such a big fashion brand's social media presence is daunting, but also very exciting.

This has also been the year where my blog really took off. Before this I was actually just blogging for friends and family, but now I'm getting readers from all over and it's so amazing! I still can't believe that people actually care about what I have to say. I mean, I don't even always care about what I have to say!"

What do you want to achieve? "Ideally I would like to walk into Musica, take all the Pitbull CDs and throw them in a big bonfire of shitty music.

But that's maybe a little too ambitious.

So I'd say I'm rather going to focus on getting that "CEO" in front of my name."

Good luck and all the best on your road to success Anja...

Quotes For The Week!

Wishing everyone a very productive and successful week!

Monday: "Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple, really: Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, so go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that's where you will find success." - Thomas J. Watson

Tuesday: "Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential." - John Maxwell

Wednesday: "What would you attempt to do if you knew you would not fail?" - Robert Schuller

Thursday: "Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up." -Thomas A. Edison

Friday: "Be patient with yourself. Self-growth is tender; it's holy ground. There's no greater investement." - Stephen Covey

Saturday: "You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." - Margaret Thatcher
