Living on Borrowed Time.

As I was sitting in Church a few months ago listening to the pastor preaching, an idea came to mind. The sermon was about 'Time' and so I had a brilliant idea to make a post about 'Time'.

What you read above was what I had written almost a year ago. I have been procrastinating. At first I did not understand why, but now as the few months have passed, I now understand why now is the perfect time to finish the post. I needed to go through a few things before I could understand and have the knowledge to write this post. By now I'm sure you know that what has passed was not only months, but weeks too. Not only days, but hours too. Time passed, something I can never have back. So let me get started...

I came to realize and accept that every living organism on this earth is living on borrowed time. Now what do I mean by borrowed time well exactly that. Our time on Earth is borrowed, it isn't ours to keep, ours to know, ours to control ours to own and definitely not ours to change. What do I mean by this? Let me explain by asking you 3 simple questions:

  1. How long do you have to live?
  2. Once your time runs out, will you be able to reset it?
  3. Do you control time, can you pause it or rewind?
Those are only a few questions. The answers to those questions are simple. NO! NO! And NO to all three. Therefore it is not our time we living on rather borrowed time.

According to the definition of 'borrowed', there will come a point when we have to return/give back this 'time' that we were borrowed. This brings me to this, if time is really our most valuable resource then why do we waste it? Because once it's gone and our time has run out, there's nothing we can do to bring it back. Think about it, let it sink in. Why then do we waste it?

Our time is limited, therefore it should not be wasted. Let me ask you, if you had a R100 left in your account, would you spend it on alcohol or on food for the week? If you think like me then the answer would obviously be on FOOD for the week because spending it on alcohol would be a waste. Food would last and it would provide me with the nutrients I need to get through the week, alcohol on the other hand would be a "Now" thing, it would serve it's purpose and nothing more, it would not get me through the week or add any value to my life. Now if we consider time in this instance, it would be the R100. Wasting our time on things or people that do not benefit our lives or add any value to it is like the alcohol. On the other hand the following things I'm about to mention would be like food: Doing the things we love, spending time with our loved ones, setting goals and achieving them, going after our dreams, investing in ourselves mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally and most importantly loving ourselves and being kind to the world and each other.

So which would you spend your precious time on... actually let me rephrase the question. Which one of these have you been spending your time on? Have you been wasting your precious, borrowed and non renewable resource or have you been using it the best way possible? Think about it, no seriously just really think about it. To be honest I did waste a lot of time in the past, but now that I know better and have learnt so much, the wasting of time and taking it for granted has stopped and I will continue to use my borrowed time wisely. I do not want to look back years from now and think "Damn, I wasted the little time I had!". Regret is the worst thing one can have and experience.

So I urge you all today, please start using your time wisely. It's a precious thing and if I had a choice to have more money or more time, I'd definitely opt for more time because let's be honest money cannot buy you time but time can always bring you money if you work for it

Peace. Happiness. Success.

Road to success EP92!

Desola's Road To Success:

Name: Desola Oluwakemi Mako

Occupation: "Architect, Blogger at www.deemako.com, Communicator and Creative Director."

Goals: "To be successful at everything I lay my hands on and to make some money while at it."

What is success? "Happiness, Joy and Fulfillment. For me success only truly occurs when you feel any of these three feelings. One is never truly entirely successful till death as the more you live the more you set new goals but when you accomplish them, there is a feeling of satisfaction that translates into happiness, joy and fulfillment and maybe even pride in one's self and contentment, that for me is success."

What success have you achieved? "A whole lot, a few of them are that I have been successful in the area of education, crossing hurdles and keeping at it. I am also successfully running a blog which a while back seemed like would never happen. I have successfully ran and advised young businesses and people and their growths and successes have translated into mine."

What success do you want to achieve? "A whole lot also, I am yet to get married, have kids, start my dream businesses, build my house and even serve God the way I want to. I still want to travel the world, touch more lives and even personally become a better person and have a wider and vast knowledge about other subjects."

"I would like to add that the road to success is not easy at all. I personally am a doubter and a worrier, when I was in high school and earlier during my university days, I worried I wasn't smart enough, I worried I would never learn how to drive, I worried I would never be good enough, I NEVER THOUGHT I DESERVED WHAT  EVERYONE HAD, a lot of this worrying held me back and stopped me from doing so much but then I started to change my thoughts by challenging myself to do all those things I thought I would never be able to do, I started to drive all by myself and I started to engage in smart 'convos', I also started to teach tutorials and everyone started to call me intelligent and some said I was a go 'getter'. I realized at that point that all I ever want I can be and all I ever will be will be by my hand.
SO if you are reading this for inspiration, forget about those voices in your head and CHASE THAT DREAM. GO FOR IT. DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF WITH YOUR FRIENDS. DON'T LET THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF YOUR LIFE AFFECT YOU. YOU ARE BETTER THAT EVERYONE BECAUSE YOU ARE YOU.
Lastly don't measure success by material things, don't be money orientated because when you are down money can't lift you up, but a nice email from someone you helped, inspired or touched will not only lift you up but it will also inspire you as well.
Thank you and be successful."

All the best on your road to success Desola and thank you so much for the wise and inspiring words...

I Am More Than What You See

It's the most annoying thing when people who don't even know you (even some who do) put you in a bubble. They define you based on their thoughts and how they see you. I am smart, ambitious and going places, I am more than what you see.

Ayanda's Road To Success:

Name: Ayanda Thabethe

Occupation: Founder and MD of Buzzworthyproduction.co.za
                      Model

Goals: "To leave a lasting legacy as a woman who went out boldly, emptied all her skills and talents into doing what she was called to do. To always live a life of purpose and enjoy the journey."

What is success? "Success for me is when you are living a life that is in line with your purpose, having emptied out all your talents and skills doing what you love every day and being content with the results of your efforts."

What success have you achieved?

  • "I have obtained 2 degrees; Bcom Communication Degree and Honours Bcom Marketing Degree.
  • I have worked for 2 global organizations such as Johnson and Johnson and L'Oreal respectively.
  • I have launched 2 successful brands in the South African market when I was a brand manager for Dark and Lovely. My launch of the Dark and Lovely Amla Legend range was considered the benchmark launch for the rest of the consumer products division within L'Oreal.
  • I have since left corporate to start my own through the line organization, Buzzworthy production (Pty) Ltd which is already servicing blue chip clients and is part of some great initiatives, although I can't reveal these just yet. It is an honour and a real privilege to wake up every day and put bricks on the wall of my legacy. This for me is success in its truest form. Each effort everyday no matter how little contributes to the bigger goals.
  • I am also a part time South African model and it has proven my greatest asset to be able to say that being considered beautiful has no bearing on my intellectual capacity."

Cara-Lee's Road To Success:

Name: Cara-Lee Ruditzky

Occupation: Fashion Editor at Fairlady magazine

Goals: "Career wise I always dreamt of studying fashion and becoming a Fashion Editor. Personally I always had a goal to be healthy and happy in everything that I do and one day raise a family."

What is success? "I think success goes beyond work. Success is about your career but also your personal life and how you are able to make the two work together. Success to me is how happy you are doing something. I keep hearing that if you love what you do you cannot call it work. I used to think that was a load of nonsense but I am beginning to realize it is true. Success is about getting up everyday and looking forward to your day no matter what you have to do. If you can find that place, I think that is success. As well as being healthy, happy, living the personal life you want, that is the ultimate success."

What success have you achieved? "I did what I set out to do, at 28 years old I am proud to say I am Fashion Editor to one of SA's most well know women's magazines. I am also a fashion blogger (www.thefashiondepartment.co.za) through which I have had some really amazing opportunities. "

What success do you want to achieve? "Eventually I want to work for myself, I think I have a lot to learn still but I know that one day I will. "
