Quotes of the week

Monday:

It's only up from here. You've been down and out and now things are changing in your favour. You can do it, keep pushing keep grinding. Move on up.

Tuesday:

Just because a door is closed, doesn't mean it is locked... Sometimes all you need to do is open the door. That's it. You are responsible for your own success.

Wednesday:

There's no need to fear what you have control over and you are responsible for your own success therefore there's no need to fear anything.

Thursday:

Just as the sun we must rise each and every day. Some days may be hard and giving up seems like the easier option, but don't do it, rise even when it's hard. Rise each and every day and make it a habit.

Friday:

Live a life that inspires those around you. Be an inspiration not only to others but especially to yourself. Live to inspire.

The truth about Mistakes!

     So true

Mistake is defined as “an act or judgment that is misguided or wrong.” Used as a verb it is defined as “be wrong about.” I give you the definitions just so we all on the same page.

Here is my truth about mistakes:

  1. Learn from them. You cannot be making the same mistakes over and over.
  2. Always a lesson. No matter how bad a mistake may seem or how big or small it may be, there’s always something to take out of it. There’s always a lesson you needed to learn so you make wiser decisions next time around.
  3. They don’t define you. Have you seen those people who wear their mistakes and carry them around with them? Like why? Deal with it, Learn and then Let it go. Mistakes are not a characteristic or part of your DNA. You made a mistake now move on.
  4. They are there for second chances. They help you do something right the second time around.
  5. Help us grow. You cannot grow without knowing the difference between what’s right and what’s wrong, what to do and what not to do. Mistakes help us grow by helping us learn.
  6. Build character. They help you do things right the second time around therefore you’re not only wiser but you more confident and most importantly you never gave up, you bounced back from your mistake making you more courageous and weak free.
  7. Opportunity to do things right the 2nd time around.
  8. Provide experience.
  9. Mistakes differ from person to person so don’t force your mistakes on anybody and don’t accept the same from anybody else, don’t compare your mistakes to other people’s mistakes.
  10. Mistakes are… just that.

A few poems about mistakes I know you’ll enjoy:

Mistakes

In life,

I made a lot of mistakes,

But mistakes made me wiser,

Pain makes me stronger.

It’s okay to make mistakes,

It’ll make you wiser,

So you won’t make the same one again.

By: Alicia Kamimski

Mistakes

Mistakes are merely lessons.

Lessons that no one likes to learn.

Parents try and protect us from.

Most see mistakes as regrets.

They help us learn and grow.

Whether good or bad we’ve learned.

The reasons may not be clear.

But mistakes are not negative.

Everyday there are new mistakes to make.

Don’t be afraid to take risks.

Make mistakes.

There’s no such thing as a mistake.

Only lessons learned.

By: Mayas

Make No Mistake…

“One mistake

does

not One make.”

By: Damian Murphy

Mistakes

If we learn from our mistakes, then making no mistakes is our greatest mistake.

By: Carlos Caloca

I would also like to add that making a mistake doesn’t make you a failure. Look at it as an opportunity to grow and learn. Get back up and say to yourself “Lesson learnt”. The best way to deal with mistakes is to turn them into your success. Read how to turn your mistakes/failure into success here.

Quotes of the week

Monday:

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step." - Lao Tzu

Tuesday:

Wake up driven. Let your drive push you to achieve your heart's desires. Be driven and stay driven and you will make your dreams come true.

    Wednesday:

Sometimes you just need to keep your dreams to yourself. Your dreams may be too big for the people you're telling and that's when they bring you down. Some people's dreams are not as big as yours so don't worry about what they say or think.

    Thursday:

Wake up and grind. Get closer to your goal, do more and want more. You can do it all you have to be able to do is GRIND.

    Friday:

It doesn't take much to grow, all you need to do is do something different to better yourself. Growth has not size, big or small is still growth. We all need to grow and if you don't want to, well then you'll stay the same all alone and you'll get left behind. You have to grow so just do it

Have an amazing and productive week everyone!

    Monday:

"Every moment is a fresh beginning." - T.S. Eliot

    Tuesday:

Dream it and you shall achieve it. Your dreams may be difficult to achieve but you can achieve them. It's not impossible and if you believe it to be possible YOU WILL ACHIEVE YOUR DREAMS.

    Wednesday:

It's not over until your dreams are a reality.

    Thursday:

Sometimes a bad situation is not all bad. Sometimes we need something to happen to us for us to be redirected to the path we need to achieve our goals and dreams.

    Friday:

Winners only have one goal and that's to win. Have a winning mentality and stay winning.

    Without Fail

Failure is defined as a “Lack of success”. I love this definition so much because in no words do they define failure as being a part of a person. It’s not a characteristic or clothing item either, so why is it that many people define themselves as failures or wear the word failure wherever they go? Surprising isn’t it? Not really, a lot of people make this mistake and a lot of them live by this. I’m here to tell you that failure is a lack of success, nothing more nothing less. You are not a failure, what you did happened to fail but the great thing is that you can always try and try again. Failure is not the end, it’s the beginning. Yeah sure many of us would rather not fail but whether you fail or not does it really change your destination? No it doesn’t, all it does is delay it and a delay is not a stop, it’s a pause. That’s why the experts always tell you to deal with your failure, reflect on what you could’ve done different or better and how you’re going to get back on your feet. So what have we learnt? Failure doesn’t define you. Failure is a mistake you had to learn. Failure is a big part of the learning process.

The few famous failures you know:

    • Steve Jobs – Got fired from Apple.
    • J.K Rowling – Short lived marriage, she was jobless, a lone parent and as poor as it was possible.
    • Michael Jordan – Jordan was overlooked by some basketball coaches because he didn’t reach the minimum height standard.
    • Bill Gates – Dropped out of Harvard and his first startup went under.
    • Albert Einstein – Expelled from school and refused entrance to the Zurich Polytechnic School.
    • Abraham Lincoln – Lost 5 elections before being elected president.

The many famous failures you didn’t know about:

    • Henry Ford – His early businesses failed and left him broke 5 times before he founded the successful Ford Motor Company.
    • Charles Darwin – Father insulted and ridiculed his, dreams and intellect and told him he was lazy.
    • Walt Disney – He was fired by a newspaper editor because “he lacked imagination and had no good ideas.” First business didn’t go well and he ended up bankrupt.
    • Thomas Edison – Fired from first 2 jobs for not being productive enough. 1000 unsuccessful attempts at inventing a light bulb.
    • Winston Churchill – Struggled at school and failed 6th grade. He was defeated in every election for public office until he became the Prime Minister at 62 years old.
    • Oprah Winfrey – Endured a rough and abusive childhood, career setbacks and she was fired as a television reporter.
    • Marilyn Monroe – Had a rough upbringing and was denied being a model by modeling agencies..
    • Elvis Presley – He was fired by manager of the Grande Ole Opry and insulted. He told him to quit the singing and go drive trucks.
    • The Beatles – A recording company rejected them saying they didn’t like their sound and guitar music is on the way out so it wouldn’t sell.
    • Ludwig van Beethoven – His teachers felt he was hopeless at composing and would never succeed with the violin or in composing.
    • Vincent Van Gogh – Only sold one painting when he was alive.

Here’s how you can turn your failure into success:

    1. Reflect on what you could’ve done differently or better.
    2. Use failure as a lesson.
    3. Say no to fear.
    4. Accept responsibility.
    5. Use your imagination.
    6. Never give up.

    My story:

I had failed anatomy in my second year of medicine and this literally devastated me. I wasn’t use to failure so this took me by surprise. So I too like the many men and women out there went into a minor depressive state. I blamed myself and broke myself down until I was sure I had felt the punishment. A few months went by and then I woke up one morning fed up of the self-hate I was experiencing. I was done crying, done making an excuse and done not dealing with it. So I faced it head on and I acknowledged my role in everything and took responsibility for it. I worked hard and did things differently. I found ways to make anatomy easier and more fun. And more importantly I never gave up even when it would’ve been easier to do so. Once I was stable and content I then thought to myself that if I’m going through this how many other people are too. So I started this blog Giant Leaps To Success to help and motivate people to go after their dreams, that they are responsible for their success and that they can do anything they set their minds to. I used my failure to help others and to inspire others and that for me is success.

How to differentiate between Gold & simply Gold-Plated people in your life.

    Hello Giants

You might be wondering what the title is about and what it has to do with success and being the best version of yourself. It may not be obvious now but bear with me and continue reading the rest of the post, and once you’ve read it, it will make a lot more sense.

Let’s start off by tackling Gold vs Gold Plated things:

    Gold
    Gold Plated
Elemental metal made up of only gold atoms.
Thin layer of gold covering something.
Will not tarnish – Will not become dull, dim or discolored and will not be ruined.
Small amount of actual gold that inevitably rubs away over time

Now how does all this relate to you and your life? I believe you have 2 kinds of people/friends in your life; Real & Fake who I call Gold & Gold Plated.  I use this contrast to show you that the people you consider gold in your life are the real deal, they will stay by your side and will continue to support you. They will not tarnish. Whereas Gold Plated people, maybe not initially but over time, will reveal their true selves and their hidden agendas. They are pretentious and dishonest. What you thought of them will change once their true colors are revealed.

    People/Friends who represent Gold
    Gold Plated People/“Friends”
People/Friends who are loyal and trusting.
People/“Friends” who pick and choose when to be loyal or trusting to you depending on the situation and who they are around.
    People/Friends who help you grow.
People/“Friends” who make you feel small and inferior to them.
People/Friends who are there for you through thick and thin.
People/“Friends” who are with you when times are good and nowhere to be found when times are bad.
People/Friends who motivate you to be the best version of yourself.
People/“Friends” who continue to discourage you when it comes to your dreams or who let you continue doing the wrong thing knowing very well it’s not good for you.
    People/Friends who believe in you.
People/“Friends” who would rather see you fail than succeed.
People/Friends you can be real around.
People/“Friends” who make you feel bad for being who you really are.
People/Friends who choose to love you and be around you with your flaws and all.
People/“Friends” who compete with you, who never make an effort and who point out all your wrongs and conveniently forget to mention all your rights.
People/Friends who want you to succeed.
People/“Friends” who sabotage everything you do or have planned.

The people/friends who represent Gold are the type of people you want in your life. They are real and don’t just pretend, these are the people you can trust with your life. These are the people who will push you into the right direction and who will be by your side with every step you take. These are the type of people you want to have in your success corner, in your successful life and on your journey to greatness.

On the other hand you may have read about how Gold Plated people are and thought to yourself, “Wait a minute, I have some people/“friends” in my life that fit this description”. All I can say is you’re right, we all have encountered such people, some more than once and some currently still are. Gold Plated people are the type of people you don’t want in your life, as a matter of fact you want them as far from you as possible. They have nothing to give you except for negativity, self-doubt and disappointment. They will not grow you. The only positive thing about being around these people is knowing who to be around or who to leave behind. They bring unnecessary toxicity and discouragement into your life. Some may even delay your success or even stand in the way of it. They are quick to be disloyal and everything else they need to be to get ahead even at the price of your friendship and trust.

To be successful, stay successful and live a successful life you need to surround yourself with the right people, people you trust without a doubt and people who will help you achieve greatness. Not everyone wants you to be great. Rather have a small, strong, driven and loyal circle than a volatile big circle that’s waiting to blow.

Guard your space above all so nothing and no one stands in the way of your success and happiness.

    Peace. Happiness. Success.
