Name: Chandra M.

Occupation: Online Contributor for www.merchantsonlong.com and founder of www.freshyoungmoderncool.blogspot.com

Goal in life:
  • “To work for my favourite fashion magazine.
  •  To grow my personal brand.
  • To introduce more people (both locally and globally) to African designs.
  • To support more local businesses and
  •  To travel as much as possible!
  • To be successful and inspiring as my role models – Mindy Kaling, Lena Dunham, Susie Lau, Tavi Gevinson and Shonda Rhimes to name a few!”

What is success? “For me, success means going after something you want and not stopping until you achieve it, being willing to work hard, removing any ‘safety nets’, being confident in yourself and your abilities, putting in the extra effort, and understanding that success does not happen overnight. Below is a quote that sums up perfectly what it takes to be successful.”

Ivana & Astra’s Road To Success:

Name: Ivana Nebuloni and Astra Papacostas

Occupation: “Ivana is a Marketing and Advertising Strategist and Astra is an Executive PA.
We are also the co-bloggers of It’s a Brunette Kinda Thing.”

Goal in life: “To inspire people to be the best possible versions of themselves.
To become successful in our careers and to be different and extraordinary at what we do.”

What is success? “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing you will be successful.”

What have you already achieved?
  • “Since we have defined success as happiness, we feel as though we are very successful in life already! Although we have a lot to still achieve and we dream of even greater success, we are so proud of the women that we are today.
  • We are both in very special, long-term relationships. (Ast has been dating her man for 6 and a half years and V for 7 and a half years.)
  • We have graduated with degrees and Honours and have done so with great merit. Ast has completed her Honours in Industrial Psychology and Ivana has completed her BCom degree in Marketing Management with Honours in Brand Building and Communications. We are both very proud of all the hard work we have put in over the years.
  • We also currently have amazing jobs that push us and inspire us every day!
  • We have our blog, which can be quite tricky at times – because we both work full time too. But we are determined to make it special, because we truly have a passion for the things we write about.
  • We take pride in everything we do and everything we have done and we always strive to do and be better, because one should never be satisfied, as that’s when you stop growing and learning life.”

What do you want to achieve?
  • “Once again, we take pride in everything we do and everything we have done and we always strive to do and be better, because one should never be satisfied, as that’s when you stop growing and learning in life.
  • We hope to take our blog success to new levels and ultimately inspire thousands of wonderful ladies all around the world.
  • We hope to achieve greater success in our careers and to be different and extraordinary at what we do.
  • There are still so many possibilities out there and we are ready to take these opportunities on. We have high hopes and dreams for many things in life and we know that if we keep persisting, nothing is impossible if you just believe! It just depends on how badly you want something.

Road to success EP45!

Dale’s Road To Success:

Name:  Dale Anne Scogings

Occupation: Content Producer at Spree by day. Blogger by night.

Goal in life: “My life goals involve constant personal growth, happiness and contribution. My life goal is to be able to say at the end that I did my best to reach my full potential. And to wear Elie Saab, that would complete my life. Also to have a room in my home dedicated to rainbows and creativity.”

What is success? “I personally think that success is doing what you love every day. My career is very important to me purely because I love creating and the happiness that comes from having a job that allows me to do so. I believe that my idea of success is constantly changing and that one should never become complacent about achievements. There’s always something more to accomplish and be happy about.”

What have you already achieved? “Specifically; I've been awarded a Media24 bursary and I've graduated with a Bachelor of Journalism specializing in Communication Design. I've achieved a few other things too but to be honest, I look at every day as an achievement, whether it be a good blog post, meeting a new person, helping someone or learning a new skill or learning something new about your character – the little things.”

What do you want to achieve? “Oh my. The list is endless. I intend to complete a fashion styling course at some point soon, I hope to grow my blog. I hope to train to run a half marathon. I hope to travel to Versailles and I hope to eventually edit one of SA’s top fashion magazines. I also hope to turn my blog into a book one day; as well as potentially become a full time blogger and designer. And most importantly; I hope to never lose my blind optimism and inherent need to learn and grow.”

All the best on your road to success Dale. May it be a very successful journey.

What attracted me to her blog was definitely the care 'freeness' of it, how she is so sarcastic and real and positive. I love it. It’s different.

"You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results." Mahatma Gandhi

Road to success EP43!

Marli's Road To Success:

Name: Marlinette Newman

Occupation: Professional Free-lance Make-up Artist and Hairstylist.

Goal in life: "To pursue excellence in all that I do. To be excellent in my career. To love others first, learning that I am not the most important person in my life. Basically to live a Godly life - Matthew 6:33. To prioritize my marriage, my husband and family and friends. The rest will follow... a house, career, business, travel etc."

What is success? "Success for me is living a life that has a balance. A life that has a balance between relationships, down-time and work. To be able to treat others as you would like to be treated is also a huge success in life I think. I also strongly believe in passing on what you learn in order to help others build their success! This is part of why I started my YouTube Channel MarliMakeup."

What have you already achieved? "I have managed to build a career where I am my own business, which allows me more freedom to pursue new ideas. I am represented as a Make-up Artist and Hairstylist by one of SA's top artist agencies, Infidels. I have started a "brand" MarliMakeup which has opened up a platform for me to pass on what I know via my Tutorial Videos, Instagram and Blog. I have and am still learning to love others first before judging them. To truly care for others! I have an amazing husband who is my best friend, and a very close knit family."

What do you want to achieve? "This is always a tough question. I do have goals to grow more in all areas of my life, to walk this life with great expectations and less fear and see where it takes me. In my mind I do have dreams like starting another business, that my YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/user/marlimakeup would grow further so that more people can learn the Art of Make-up through my easy tutorials, to help others' dreams come true, ... etc BUT all that said I am always in God's hands. I have learnt that his plans are always greater than mine, and that is more exciting than any goals that I can come up with."

Wishing you all the best on your journey Marli, we need more people like you in this world and we all definitely need to adopt a habit of putting others first. What an inspiration you are!

Road to success EP42!

Jasna's Road To Success:

Name: Jasna Zellerhoff

Occupation: Freelance Stylist, Writer and the Owner and Editor of the Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Blog Fashionjazz

Goal in life:

  1. "Be successful in my chosen career.
  2. To inspire people and make a difference.
  3. To have the white picket fence with the house, the man and the baby but only when I am ready.
  4. To live life to the fullest and be happy."

What is success? "Success to me is being happy with yourself and what you do in your every day life whether it be as a successful career woman or an amazing stay at home mom or both. If you do what you love you will never work a day in your life."

What have you achieved? "Like I said for me success differs, in my career I have achieved many things... I was one of the first fashion bloggers in South Africa, I started my blog/site when no one even knew what a blog was and would ask me why on earth I was taking pictures of my outfits or my jewelry. My readership started from overseas where I started by joining a blog Chictopia and networking with different bloggers who now are the most sought after top fashion bloggers in the world. Having maintained those friendships they were the ones who encouraged me to start my blog and the rest as they say is history.

I was voted as one of the top 100 bloggers in the world, which later became a hard cover book that you can purchase on Amazon and have been featured in overseas blogs, magazines and TV shows like Fashion Salade, Glamour and MTV.

I have also the privilege to work and represent luxury brands from all over the world national and international like Marc Jacobs, Shopbop, American Swiss, Smirnoff Vodka, JC Le Roux, Master Card, Forever New and many more.

My personal achievement, creating a brand from scratch, maintaining it and not letting the glitz and glam of the lifestyle change me and staying true to myself, my friends and family. Trying to live each day to the fullest, I love inspiring people and when I get emails or tweets from my readers, it makes my day. I believe in business and personal that each day you end off with this saying... At the end of the day, the only questions I will ask myself are... Did I love enough, laugh enough and did I make a difference?"

What do you want to achieve? "Career wise there are so many things I want to achieve, I want to build a Fashionjazz Empire, I want to have my own line either with a brand national or international, I want to attend NY and Paris Fashion Week and finally use the invites I get from the designers instead of always sending them to my overseas friends who go on my behalf. I want to inspire people, I want to start a charity, mostly I want to help other people achieve their dreams and be happy. I am still in the process of creating a balance and juggling my career, the social aspect of my career, my personal life and my health and well being and that is something I want and need to achieve and each day it's a struggle, but a lesson that I learn about myself.

Personally, the success I want to achieve is exactly like my goals, to be happy, healthy and in love with life and everyone in it."

All the best on your journey and road to success Jasna...

Road to success EP41!

Anja's Road To Success:

Name: Anja van der Spuy

Occupation: Social Media Manager at the Publishing Partnership

Goal in life:

  1. "Eat as much cheese as humanly possible.
  2. Visit the States and take a selfie in Times Square.
  3. Avoid going to the Waterfront as much as possible (Hate that place).
  4. Banish Pitbull's music.
  5. Own a walk-in closet.
  6. Get married in leopard print.
  7. Be featured in Forbes magazine.
  8. CEO: Anja van der Spuy"

What is success? "The day that you don't have to introduce yourself to people anymore - that's success."

What have you already achieved? "I was very unhappy in my previous job, so when I landed a position at The Publishing Partnership as a Content Editor for the LEGiT website, I was super chuffed. I recently got promoted to Social Media Manager, which has been really scary and amazing at the same time. Being in charge of such a big fashion brand's social media presence is daunting, but also very exciting.

This has also been the year where my blog really took off. Before this I was actually just blogging for friends and family, but now I'm getting readers from all over and it's so amazing! I still can't believe that people actually care about what I have to say. I mean, I don't even always care about what I have to say!"

What do you want to achieve? "Ideally I would like to walk into Musica, take all the Pitbull CDs and throw them in a big bonfire of shitty music.

But that's maybe a little too ambitious.

So I'd say I'm rather going to focus on getting that "CEO" in front of my name."

Good luck and all the best on your road to success Anja...

Quotes For The Week!

Wishing everyone a very productive and successful week!

Monday: "Would you like me to give you a formula for success? It's quite simple, really: Double your rate of failure. You are thinking of failure as the enemy of success. But it isn't at all. You can be discouraged by failure or you can learn from it, so go ahead and make mistakes. Make all you can. Because remember that's where you will find success." - Thomas J. Watson

Tuesday: "Successful and unsuccessful people do not vary greatly in their abilities. They vary in their desires to reach their potential." - John Maxwell

Forget the Past, Think about your Future!

You cannot change the past . What we can do is learn from it and look forward to the future. For the future we need to dream and we need goals. We must set goals to achieve. This will take us a step closer to the future we want to have.

Goals + Hard Work = Our Dreams and Better Future!!!

  1. Think about your future, how you want it to be.
  2. Set goals and make a plan to get to where you need to be to make your future a reality.
  3. Work hard and smart to achieve your goals, no matter how long it takes.
  4. Be patient.
  5. After you've achieved what you've wanted and you're where you wanted to be then look back and see how far you've come then look forward, set more goals, work hard and make an even better future for yourself.
Good Luck! You can do it!

9 Tips: Life made simple!

We love to make life complicated. Truth is, Life is simple, we just make it so difficult for ourselves. Start to simplify your life little by little and soon you will be living a simple But Happy and Content life.

Follow these 9 easy tips:

.
  1. Think Positively. Negative thoughts and a negative mindset only make things worse. Even if you're a realist it doesn't mean you have to be negative. In everything be positive it will help with tips 5, 6 and 9. And trust me it makes life so much greater and that much more worth it.
  2. Exercise Daily. This is a must, there are too many people in this world suffering from lifestyle diseases, diseases that could very well be prevented if you just exercise and eat healthy (tip 3). Exercising has many benefits such as staying in shape, you have energy, reduces fatigue, reduces lifestyle diseases, provides circulation to your body aiding in great skin and so much more. It doesn't have to be exercise in gym, even taking the stairs up to your office or anywhere, taking a 10 minute walk everyday, walk your dog, cycle, a swim at home. There is so much you can do, research it.
  3. Eat Healthy. This tip goes with the tip above. Eating healthy also if not the most important of the 2 tips reduces and prevents lifestyle diseases. I'm not saying that a night out or take-outs are out of the picture, all I'm saying is it should be 5:1, you should be eating more healthy than junk foods. This is a tip I need to take seriously in my life! Definitely!!! And for those of you who don't know, healthy food can be really delicious, you just have to research recipes and give it a chance.
  4. Work Hard. Self explanatory! If you want to succeed and live a comfortable, debt free, luxurious life with no worries about money and your children's education, or food or any other financial issue then you have to work hard. The only time success comes before work is in the dictionary. Always work hard and work smart. Period.
  5. Stay Strong. There is nothing like a strong person. Strong in their beliefs, their work ethic, their responsibilities and their life. Many of us forget to stay strong. Nothing can take down a strong person. And let's be honest here, in this life we need to be strong because only the strong survive and live this life!
  6. Worry Less. Very Important!! If there's one thing I've learned in life is that worry gets you no where. Worrying does not change the situation, all it does is make you negative, depressed, unhappy and anxious, all the emotions and feelings you do not need in life. If you can change what you're worrying about then don't bother worrying about it, if it is out of your hands then do what I do just pray and hope for the best, for those of you who don't pray then don't worry just hope for the best and then take it from there. Remember to think positive through it all (Tip 1).
  7. Dance More. I love this one. It doesn't have to be in the literal sense. I would change this to ENJOY MORE (the little things and the big things). If we learn to enjoy life now and enjoy the different things in life, this will make life that much more amazing. This will also make us happy (tip 9) and more grateful and closer to our loved ones.
  8. Love Often. Now I know this statement may be misleading. I personal think we need to learn to love. Obviously loving our families and spouses and friends comes naturally. But we also need to give love to people who don't have it like the homeless people who cannot help themselves, people who are unfortunate and needy. Be sincere. Basically love those who need love, help those who need help. And most of all give love a chance. Love can change a person's life, trust me. Love makes the world go round not just money.
  9. Last but not least Be Happy. This is also self explanatory. A happy Life is a Life Worth Living. When you are happy everything seems to fall into place. Being happy and being positive go hand in hand, Being happy also reduces stress which is a very great thing.
Life Made Simple.
Peace. Happiness. Love. Success.

You Create Your Own Opportunities!

Oportunidades

Road to success EP37!

Foyin's Road To Success:

Name: Foyin Ogunrombi (known as Foyin Og)

Occupation: Full time student (currently in matric); Part time blogger.

Goal in life: "My goal in life is to be happy. I want to empower others and create a brand or an empire that will revolutionize the South African fashion/media industry."

What is success? "Success is often defined as material possessions to many people, but I don't necessarily think that's true. To truly be successful, you should be able to wake up in the morning, look yourself in the mirror and be happy with what you see. If you are happy with who you are as a person, and you do what you love and it fulfills you, you are surrounded by people who love, support and inspire you to constantly grow and better yourself, you can live in a tiny house and ride a bicycle and be successful. Success is relative - it is not the same for every person; There isn't a 'success check list' given to us at birth containing things we have to achieve."

What have you already achieved? "In a personal capacity, success is mostly academic to me.I was elected by my peers onto both the Student Representative Council and the Student Executive Councils - both of which are prestigious positions; I achieve good marks in school and I was recently accepted to my ideal university. In a professional capacity, I was elected onto the Seventeen Magazine Style Counsel, through which I made some amazing friendships and potential media connections and networking opportunities. This led to a quiz I made being published in Seventeen Magazine, a feature in StyleGF mobi-mag and most recently, representing the iconic Baked The Blog at the Woolworths Style By Night event. Obviously, also reaching 20 000 page views on my blog was a big success for me, as well! It shows the progress I have made in my blog."

What do you want to achieve? "In a personal capacity, I would love to pass matric with as many distinctions as possible and go on to get my university degree in business science. In a professional capacity, I would love to carry on how I am going - networking with influential fashion/business people in South Africa and abroad; growing my brand into something that is inspiring and something I can look on to be proud of and other things that come along with growing my band, such as appearances, endorsements, brand relationships, etc. I am incredibly excited for what the future holds! I am on the pursuit of happiness and I'll take victory in the little things. God has given me many talents and I will use them to declare greatness and ongoing success into my life. :)"

All the best on your journey Foyin... Wishing you a lot of success.
